Introducing Madras High School’s March 2025 Athletes of the Month!

We are thrilled to kick off the 24-25 spring sports season by announcing our next round of MHS Athletes of the Month! These exceptional athletes from Boy’s and Girl’s Golf, Track and Field, Tennis, Baseball and Softball have shown outstanding dedication and sportsmanship on and off the field, court, course, and track.

Each coach took the time to write down summaries on why these individuals truly stand out. Let’s give a roaring cheer for these March stars!

Boys Golf: Reagan is off to a great start, and has been our best golfer in both tournaments thus far this year. He has bought into the idea of strategic golf and his success is reflective of that.

In our 1st Place team finish at The Dalles Invitational, Reagan tied for 3rd place overall as an individual with a score of 85, on a quirky golf course and in terrible weather conditions. His ability to avoid big numbers post a good score was a testament to not just good golf, but also being highly engaged in the planning and strategy session the day before the tournament.

– Head Coach Johnny Wilson

Girl’s Golf: Daniella is playing golf for the very first time. She has been playing for 4 weeks now and in her first tournament shot a 140. In her second tournament she shaved 15 strokes off her first score, and then in her 3rd tournament shaved another 8 strokes off for a total of 23 strokes in the last two tournaments.

– Head Coach Allen Hair

Girls T&F: Marlee is a Freshmen this year and has started the season with a bang. Marlee is one of our sprinters running the 100, 200, 100 hurdles and a leg on our girls 4×100 relay. Marlee is currently ranked number 2 in the Tri Valley in the 200 as well as the 4×100 relay. Marlee is learning and improving every practice and track meet and has been a true pleasure to work with this early season.

– Head Coach Mike Dove

Boys T&F: Brock is a Sophomore on the MHS Track and Field Team. He is one of throwers, throwing the Shot Put and the Discus. Brock has put a huge amount of time in during the off season and it is paying off. In our first track meet of the season Brock threw a Personal Best in the Discus, improving by over 20 feet. Brock is currently ranked number 2 in the Tri Valley Conference and number 9 in the state. Brock has also improved in the shot throwing over 40 feet.

Baseball: Jared has started to take a big leadership role with this year’s team. He has put in a ton of work this off-season and he is one of our leaders on and off the field. He has been a solid force on the mound and at the plate so far this young season. I look forward to seeing how the rest of the season goes and to watch him grow.

– Head Coach Jerry Shaw

Softball: Brooklin is a competitive, driven, coachable and hard working student-athlete. Over Spring Break she demonstrated her leadership on the field and is leading the team in batting average, hits, and runs scored.

During the Lady Buff Classic, she went 6 for 12 over 4 games with 2 home runs and 2 doubles, played solid defense behind the plate, and is proving to be a leader amongst her teammates.

Having her behind the plate is like having another coach on the field. We look forward to her leadership both on and off the field this season.

– Head Coach Shawna McConnell

Boy’s Tennis: Boys’ tennis is proud to select our freshman teammate, Joan “Lalo” Santellano for MHS’s March Athlete of the Month 2025.

Even though the season has just gotten started, Lalo has embraced his role as the 13th man on varsity.  His enthusiasm in learning the game of tennis from his upperclassmen and 4th year tennis veteran brother, Julian, is inspiring and welcoming.
Before the season started, he had already committed to being a part of the team by helping sell concessions at the boys’ and girls’ basketball games. Lalo’s skills continue to improve each and every day. We look forward to seeing where his positive contributions to the tennis team will take him for success.

Girl’s Tennis: These girls picked up where they left off last year! They are improving daily and posted their first doubles win against Bend High School. Looking forward to great things this year from the seasoned seniors!
