Introducing Madras High School’s May 2025 Athletes of the Month!
We are thrilled to finish off the 24-25 school year with our final round of athletes who have earned Athlete of the Month! These exceptional athletes from baseball, softball, boys & girls track & field, boys & girls golf, and boys & girls tennis have shown outstanding dedication and sportsmanship on and off the field, course, track, and court.
Each coach took the time to write down summaries on why these individuals truly stand out. Let’s give a roaring cheer for these May stars!

Baseball: Danny had a really good month for us. As a starting pitcher, he led us to our 2 league victories, both over Crook County. Danny is a fierce competitor and always is a guy that we can count on to have a solid performance. He also was an outstanding centerfielder, continuing to make plays for us.
Danny has become a team leader this year and does a really good job holding himself and his teammates accountable. I look forward to watching him continue to develop next season.
– Head Coach Jerry Shaw

Softball: Becca has really made a turnaround as a student-athlete. She has really worked hard to become a major contributor to the team defensively with her pitching, and especially with her hitting. She batted .470 in league and had 3 homeruns on the season.
She has turned into quite the leader of her team. She was named 2nd Team All-league Pitcher for the TVC. Proud of her accomplishments and overall improvement.
– Head Coach Shawna McConnell

Boy’s Track & Field: Gavin’s hard work throughout the season, paid off at the end. Gavin qualified for the State Track meet in the Long Jump, Triple Jump, 100m, and as a member of our 4x100m relay. At the State meet Gavin placed 3rd in the Long Jump, 6th in the Triple Jump, and our 4x100m relay was second, setting a new school record.
Gavin has an amazing attitude and always shows up to compete. He has been a joy to have on the MHS Track and Field team and we are all excited to see what he does in his senior season.

Girl’s Track & Field: Addy Adams has been a 4 year letterman in Track and Field. Addy has been a multi event district champion and a multi year state placer. Addy’s specialty is the horizontal jumps where she is the current school record holder in the triple jump at 37’10.75″.
Addy Placed 4th at the State Track meet this year in both the Long Jump and the Triple Jump. She is going to continue here track career at Lane Community College.

Boy’s Golf: Tate was the low-man for the Men’s Golf Program in both the District and State Tournaments, the latter being the first time a MHS Men’s Golf Team has qualified for State since 1998.
Tate earned All-Tournament Team honors at the District Tournament at Meadow Lakes in Prineville by finishing 6th overall as an individual, with rounds of 83 and 85. He then went on to narrowly miss a Top 20 finish at the State Tournament at Tokatee Golf Club in McKenzie, finishing in a tie for 21st with rounds of 85 and 84.
Tate finished the season as our ace, leading the team with a scoring average of 84.6, and was thus named our Most Valuable Player. Tate also carried a minimum of a 4.0 GPA the entire season. Over the last two years, nobody has put more time into improving his game than Tate Alire, and we look forward to what his Senior year might hold next season.
– Head Coach Johnny Wilson

Girl’s Golf: Sydnee shot her best score on Day 2 of the District Tournament – 48 – 58 = 106 Her 48 on the front was the teams best 9 hole round all year. On Day 1, on the same side, she shot her worst 9 holes of the year.
The fact that she shot so well on Day 2 shows her mental toughness and her ability to overcome adversity. It would have been very easy for her to just blow up, but she turned around and shot the best round of the year for her and the team.
– Head Coach Allen Hair

Boy’s Tennis: Boys’ Tennis is proud to select our senior teammate, Fernando ‘Ferny’ Saldana, for May’s Athlete of the Month 2025. Over the last four years, Ferny has grown as an individual and teammate. He has become a leader, not a follower. Leading drills and showing new teammates, especially left-handed players, how to do skills correctly that are complete opposite of how he hits the ball are just a few examples.
His teammates are inspired by his finesse play versus a power hitting strategy even though he does use power when needed for finishing a winning shot. They aspire to be like him not only on the tennis court, but also the soccer field. His goal of being a State qualifier has eluded him for the last few years.
However, he has learned earning a berth in that arena doesn’t define him as a person or player. Thus, him receiving the Four ‘H’ Award for playing with Hope, Honor, Honesty and Humility…and, a little Humor along the way.
– Head Coach Margaret Kincaid

Girl’s Tennis: Hayley and Myah played in the #2 doubles spot all season. They were undefeated in league play and recognized by coaches within the league to be seeded 6th at districts. They will be a force to be reckoned with next season.
