Introducing Madras High School’s April Athletes of the Month!

We are thrilled to highlight these Spring sport stars with our next edition of Athlete of the Month! These exceptional athletes from Boys & Girls Track, tennis, golf, baseball, and softball have shown outstanding dedication and sportsmanship on and off the field, track, and course.

Each coach took the time to write down summaries on why these individuals truly stand out. Let’s give a roaring cheer for these April stars!

Boys Track & Field: Andres is no stranger to being named the Athlete of the Month for Track and Field. Andres is a senior on the track team and has been a great leader and example for our younger athletes. Andres Long and Triple Jumps and is currently ranked #2 in Long Jump in both the Tri Valley Conference and the 4A State Classification. He also Triple Jumps where he is currently ranked #1 in both the TVC and 4A level.

Andres is a great leader and person as well. He does all the right things to be prepared and successful in the jumps. Andres is planning on competing in Track and Field at the Collegiate level and is currently working on deciding where he will go to continue his career. Andres’ presence and leadership is going to be missed next season!

Girls Track & Field: Emily is one of our Senior leaders on the MHS Girls Track and Field team. Emily is a distance runner, running the 800, 1500, and 3000. Currently, Emily is ranked in the top 5 in each of these races in the Tri Valley Conference and in the top 10 in the 4A for the 800 and 1500.

Emily is not only a great athlete, but she is a great person and teammate. She is always rooting for her teammates to be successful on the track. Emily is going to run at the colligate level and is currently deciding which collegiate program fits her the best. Emily will be sorely missed by the MHS Track and Field program.

Boys Golf: Dominic has been an outstanding addition to the golf team this year and has been a major varsity contributor all year long, despite being just a freshman. In a Varsity golf tournament, there are 5 participants, with only the best 4 scores counting.

While Dominic has primarily played the #5 spot for us, there have been multiple tournaments where he fired that 3rd or 4th best score, meaning he covers for a teammate who didn’t play as well and helps keep the team score from suffering.

A major reason for our success this year is our depth, and Dominic is a key piece of that. He is currently the 8th ranked Freshman overall in all of 4A, and is climbing up that ladder every day!

– Head Coach Johnny Wilson

Girls Golf: Neveah has improved so much from the first week of practice. Her attitude has been amazing, taking on the mantra of “so what” on every shot and every practice. She has been to almost every practice and has taken on her varsity role very well.

– Head Coach Allen Hair

Girls Tennis: Nancy always comes with a positive attitude and willingness to continue learning and improving. She is extremely coachable and a pleasure to have on the tennis team. She has been playing in the #1 singles position all season and has a record of 9-5.

– Head Coach Lori Stock

Boys Tennis: Boys Tennis is proud to select Jovani Hug for April’s MHS Athlete of the Month. Jovani decided to try tennis as a new sport his senior year. He has embraced the sport with a lot of enthusiasm. He’s the kind of player coaches wish for in his quiet demeanor, positive attitude, coachability, and learning everything he can about tennis.

With Jovani’s six-foot-plus stature, matching wingspan, and athletic ability, court awareness from playing basketball, he has picked up the fundamentals quickly and has improved his skills tremendously since the beginning of the season. His serves are wicked! It’s no wonder he’s earned a varsity spot this season. We’re sad we didn’t have him on the team the last three years, but we’re so glad we have him for the time we do!!

– Head Coach Margaret Kincaid

Softball: Annie is an extremely dedicated, hard working and talented young woman. She exhibits leadership on and off the field, and demonstrates a true loyalty to the softball team and program in general. Annie is a HUGE asset to the team with her amazing catches in centerfield, and off-the-chart speed on the bases!! It’s been an honor to coach here these past 4 years.

– Head Coach Shawna McConnell

Baseball: Isaiah came up with the Varsity at the start of our League schedule and has made an immediate impact. Being able to play multiple positions and always having a great attitude are major reasons that Isaiah is starting as a freshman.

In 8 games in April, Isaiah is batting .333 with 8 hits including 2 doubles. His defensive play has been solid and he is able to play both infield and outfield. The best part about Isaiah is his positive attitude and being so coachable. He always gives us his best effort in every part of his game. Keep it up Isaiah.
