November 12, 2020

Dear Families,

We are excited about the opportunity to have our students return to in-person learning at Warm Springs K8 Academy.  We look forward to educating your child in-person under the new guidance and safety protocols the Oregon Department of Education and Jefferson School District 509J have developed to plan for students’ safe return to school.

Our current plan is to bring all K-8 students back to school the week of November 30, provided we continue to meet the metrics set forth by the Governor and the Oregon Health Department. We will remain in comprehensive distance learning (CDL) until such time that students are able to return to in-person learning at school. We will provide you with periodic updates regarding the metrics and any impact that they may have on either in-person or CDL instruction.

We will bring our kindergarten and first-grade students back the week of November 16th for small group limited in-person instruction. Our goal is to help students learn school routines and expectations while also receiving individualized attention. The students will be on-site from 1:00-3:00 pm on assigned days during the week. Kindergarten and first grade teachers will contact families to let them know when students will come to school.

Friday, November 13, and Friday, November 20, will be a “no school” day for students.  Teachers will be preparing for the return of students to in-person learning the week of November 30. There will be no Comprehensive Distance Learning (CDL) November 23-27 due to the Thanksgiving break.

When students return to school they will need to bring back school supplies, Chromebooks, and chargers that were distributed to them during the CDL time. According to ODE guidelines, students may not share materials, so it will be important that students bring their materials with them.

Schedule- See below for start dates for specific grade levels

We will begin during the week of November 30 with grades starting on different days. The school day will be 9:25-3:25. This schedule allows students to practice routines, procedures, and adapt to being at school. Students will remain in CDL until their grade returns to on-site instruction.

Monday, Nov. 30 and Tuesday, Dec. 1All kindergarten,1st, 2nd, and 6th grade students will return to WSK8 for on-site instruction, 9:25-3:25.

Wednesday, Dec. 2All 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th  grade students will join K, 1st, and 2nd for on-site instruction, 9:25-3:25.

Thursday, Dec. 3All K, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th grade students will be at WSK8 for on-site instruction, 9:25-3:25.

Friday, Dec 4: All WSK8 K-8th students will be on-site for instruction, 9:25-3:25.

Arrival and Transportation

Bus route information will be communicated the week of November 16th-20th. Please be aware that bus pick up and drop off times will be different than last year due to the changes in our school day so that we are in compliance with the Governor and OHA guidelines.

School doors will open at 9:15 a.m., and instruction starts promptly at 9:25 a.m. Students will enter the building through designated doors, pick up breakfast, and go straight to class.

Students who arrive prior to the opening of school doors will need to wait in their car until a staff member opens the school doors at 9:15. Walkers will need to time their walks to school and arrive no earlier than 9:15. Students are not permitted to gather on campus before 9:15 due to the safety guidelines. Staff will be on campus to greet and provide for the safe admittance of students into the building. Signage and staff will direct vehicle and foot traffic to designated entrances into the school.

Safety and Cohorts

Students and staff must wear a mask at all times. Masks will be made available at school if needed. All students and staff will follow social distancing guidelines and frequently wash their hands. Hand sanitizer will be provided throughout the school. Students are encouraged to bring a water bottle. Due to cohort size restrictions, your students will be limited to interacting with no more than 100 others during the week. The Governor and OHA guidelines require these safety and cohort mandates.

Students and Staff Safety

  • Masks are worn at all times
  • Follow social distancing and safety protocols
  • Bring your water bottle

We appreciate your flexibility and support as we transition all of our students back to Warm Springs K8 Academy. In the event that the metrics and safety requirements change, we will adjust to meet the essential safety guidelines to ensure the health of our students, staff, and community.

 Sincerely,                                                        Bambi Van Dyke
