Pathways to the Future

The Agricultural Science & Technology CTE Pathway introduces students to the dynamic, hands-on, and ever evolving world of agriculture, one of the region's most essential industries. This pathway is designed for students interested in science, technology, business, and skilled trades in agriculture. This pathway blends classroom learning with real-world application to prepare students for college, careers, and leadership opportunities in agriculture and related fields. Learning extends beyond the classroom with work in greenhouses and land labs, shop-based projects and field experiences throughout the community. 

Students explore plant & animal science, soil & crop production, food systems, agricultural mechanics, welding, equipment operation, and greenhouse management while also developing leadership, communication, and career-readiness skills through different projects.

Through this pathway, students gain practical, transferable skills in problem-solving, project management, teamwork, safety, and independent work.

The business education pathway introduces students to the fundamentals of business, marketing, and entrepreneurship, finance and management through hands-on, project-based learning. Students will have the opportunity to explore topics such as business foundations, ethics and law, marketing & social media, international and retail business, digital commerce, financial literacy and sports marketing. Courses emphasize real-world applications using technology and collaborative projects that mirror today's workplace and evolving economy. 

Through this pathway, students will develop essential career skills including communication, teamwork, problem-solving, time management, customer service, and leadership. Students will learn how to plan and launch business ideas, create and market products, manage operations while working in a student-run store, and participating in work based learning experiences. 

It is the philosophy of the MHS Construction Technology Department to expose as many students as possible to the myriad of skills and careers needed to create the built environment. Whether students remain as consumers only or gain a career interest in engineering or construction trades, this program provides all students the opportunity to learn how to design, build, and maintain their surroundings by learning the language and developing safe and employable skill sets. In this department, students can learn everyday skills as well as earn industry certifications that are valuable to potential future employers.

It is the goal of this program to put students in the position to make confident choices about career planning beyond high school by immersing them in hand-on activities used to reinforce the applied academics. These skills are a great headstart for all students entering the world of work regardless of career path. Industry certifications and dual credit for MHS courses are currently being developed at this writing.

This pathway prepares students for careers working with young children through hands-on learning and real-world classroom experience. Students study child development from infancy through early elementary years while exploring early learning theories, curriculum design, observation and assessment, and the role of movement, music and arts, literacy, and STEM in early childhood education. Coursework emphasizes developmentally appropriate practices and helps students understand how environment, culture, and relationships support children's growth and learning. 

Students will gain practical experience working directly with children in preschool, childcare, and elementary settings through internships, peer tutoring, and classroom placements. Students develop essential skills such as lesson planning, communication, collaboration, observation and professional reflection while building a personal philosophy of education. This will prepare our students for college and sets a strong foundation for careers in childcare, preschool, elementary education and related fields. 

This pathway introduces students to the creative and technical skills used in today's design, printing, and digital media industries. Students learn industry-standard tools such as Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop while creating real-world projects including logos, apparel, stickers, marketing materials, magazine covers, and custom printed products. Coursework also includes hands-on experience in the printing process. 

Students will also develop their skills through digital photography, learning camera operation, lighting, composition, photo editing, and visual storytelling. Throughout the pathway, students build creativity, problem-solving, attention to detail, and project management skills while working independently and collaboratively. College credit and work-based learning opportunities are available. 

This pathway introduces students to the science, management, and careers connected to land, water, wildlife and outdoor systems. Students explore ecological principles, conservation and land use, fisheries and wildlife management, forestry, botany, and outdoor recreation through a blend of classroom instruction and hands-on fieldwork. Coursework includes plant and tree identification, forest management and fire science, GPS and mapping skills, and an examination of how outdoor recreation intersects with natural resource stewardship. 

Students will gain practical, career-ready skills such as data collection and surveying, technical writing, public speaking, teamwork, navigation and field safety. Students will apply scientific concepts to real-world scenarios including fisheries research, wildlife management practices, wilderness response, and wildland fire suppression with an opportunity to complete industry-recognized fire training. 

This pathway will prepare students for a career in natural resources, forestry, fish and wildlife, outdoor recreation, conservation and emergency services.

This pathway is a two-year hands on program offered off site in Warm Springs. This program is made possible thanks to a partnership with both Central Oregon Community College, and the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs. Transportation is provided by our district, and the course is scheduled as a three period afternoon block to allow students adequate time for travel and immersive shop-based learning. 

Students will build foundational and advanced automotive skills through this program. They'll start with basic electricity, mechanical systems and college success strategies in the first year. They'll progress to engines and brake systems in year two. Through hands-on experience, students will develop technical knowledge, problem-solving skills, and workplace readiness needed for careers in the automotive industry. 

Space in this program is limited and shared between students at MHS and Bridges High School.

This pathway introduces students to a wide range of healthcare careers through hands-on learning, career exploration, and real-world experiences. Students have the opportunity to explore fields like nursing, dentistry, medical imaging, laboratory science, mental and behavioral health, therapeutic services, sports medicine, and emergency care. Coursework covers healthcare ethics, patient-centered care, medical terminology, career planning, and current health issues, while building foundational knowledge of human body systems and professional standards. 

Throughout the pathway, students will develop essential healthcare skills including communication, professionalism, critical thinking, and patient safety. Students will receive industry-recognized training such as CPR, first-aid, HIPAA, and bloodborne pathogens, and have the opportunity to participate in clinical rotations with local healthcare providers. Students taking these courses will be prepared for postsecondary healthcare programs and will graduate from MHS with real-world experience, certifications, and a strong foundation for a career in the healthcare industry.
