Dear JCSD 509-J and JCESD Teams,
Welcome back to the 2016-2017 School Year! I can’t wait to see everyone back in our schools and hope you had a great summer. I’m also looking forward to our continual work on making our schools the place each learner deserves in providing all students with the skills and characteristics they need for future-focused success. We will do this through the lens of the 509-J Strategic Plan and our continued collaboration among each other and with our key stakeholders. I also look forward to continue the work of the Jefferson County ESD in providing special needs and technology services to the four school districts of Jefferson County: JCSD 509-J, Culver, Black Butte and Ashwood.
This year brings us some positive changes for the students, families and staff of 509-J. These include our newest school, Bridges Career and Technical High School along with some new programs to better meet our learner needs at Madras High School that include additions to our CTE Program and a new Futures Center (more information on this program will be forthcoming). Our elementary programs in Madras and Metolius will also see a new change. Metolius Elementary will welcome life-skills learners in their newly remodeled building. Madras Elementary (formerly Primary) and Buff Elementary (formerly Intermediate) will each welcome students in grades Kindergarten through 5th. Buff Elementary will welcome a K-5 Behavior Program and Madras Elementary will welcome a K-5 Life Skills Program. The Warm Springs K-8 Academy welcomes many new team members as they strive toward continuing improvements in meeting the needs of our Warm Springs K-8 learners. Big Muddy K-8 will be welcoming their largest student body to date. All of our support service departments have been hard at work all summer to plan and prepare for the arrival of our learners. We couldn’t do it without them!
At the Jefferson County ESD, we continue to run a tight and focused district that provides Jefferson County districts with comprehensive technology and special program services. The JCESD Board of Directors is starting the year with a work session to focus on communication, goals and overall advocacy for our service as we continue supporting Jefferson County learners.
Thank you all for your dedication to education in Jefferson County. I look forward to seeing you throughout the year and at our opening in-service and activities. Please see the attached agenda for details on our start up activities. Don’t hesitate to contact me if you have questions or comments. I can be reached at (541) 475-6192 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
See you soon,
