We’re capping off our Fall sports season with Madras High School’s October Athletes of the Month!
These exceptional athletes from cross country, boys and girls soccer, football, volleyball, and cheerleading have shown outstanding dedication and sportsmanship on and off the field.
Each coach took the time to write down summaries on why these individuals truly stand out. Let’s give a roaring cheer for these September stars!
Football: Matthew was named first team all league defensive end and first team all league tight end. Matthew finished the season with 30 tackles, 18 of them for a loss, 2 interceptions and 9 sacks (most of the team). He also led our team in total receiving with 27 catches 288 yards and 4 touchdowns!
Cross Country: Zoe Kollen is our most stoic runner of the program. She has the competitive edge and attitude that is infectious to her teammates. She has been our strength in developing a team that is coachable. She is a leader by nature and leads by example. She may not be the fastest on the team but she makes the difference in most of our meets on where the team lands in placing.
Zoe showed up to districts this year and made a monumental race become historical for this program. She passed a girl in the last few seconds that moved our team into a 2nd place finish moving our girls team on to state together.
It has been 36 years since our last district championship, and has been over 20 years since we have had a full girls team move on to state. I believe without a doubt she will help bring a district championship and possible state trophy to our girls program before she graduates.
– Head Coach Bradley Padgett
Girls Soccer: TaLisa is a standout student-athlete who balances multiple sports with exceptional grades, proving she excels both on the field and in the classroom. She is our team captain, intensely competitive yet quietly humble, earning respect without seeking attention. Her athleticism shows in every training and match, where she moves with speed, power, and smart decision-making. She approaches coaching feedback with an open mind and a relentless desire to improve.
Teammates trust her to make the tough plays and to bring the energy when the game is on the line. She’s equally committed to lifting others up, offering encouragement and steady leadership. TaLisa’s work ethic and willingness to battle through adversity set the standard for the program. She’s the kind of leader who wins quietly and brings everyone forward with her.
– Head Coach Cesario Alonso
Boys Soccer: Glenn had to adjust to a new position and did just that. Playing every minute of every game this year, he always looked to improve and listened to instructions well. Always had a great sense of communication, on and off the field and gave it his all every time he was on the pitch. A great attitude and example for his younger team mates.
– Head Coach Jose Romero
Volleyball: Ava Leach is the kind of athlete every coach hopes to have on their team. As a senior libero, she leads not only through her skill, but through her character. She is kind, caring, and the first to support her teammates.
Ava gives 110% effort in every practice and every game, showing a relentless work ethic that has completely transformed her game from last season to now. Her growth has been remarkable: she has collected around 150 digs this season, serves at an impressive 96%, and has earned at least 18 aces. But beyond the stats, Ava’s attitude, leadership, and heart make her a true standout!
– Head Coach Taytum Stevens
Cheerleading: Katelyn has shown tremendous growth and determination to be the best cheerleader she can be. Her stunt progression has been amazing and she continues to show up every day and is determined to push through all obstacles. We are so excited to have her join us for competition season.
