Here are Madras High School’s February Athletes of the Month!

We are thrilled to celebrate the final student athletes of the month for the winter sports season for the 23-24 school year. These exceptional athletes from girls and boys basketball, boys and girls wrestling, swimming, and cheerleading have shown outstanding dedication and sportsmanship on and off the court and mat, and in the pool.

Each head coach took the time to write down summaries on why these individuals truly stand out. Let’s give a roaring cheer for these February stars!

Girl’s Basketball: Maija was honored with 2nd team all league honors this season. She comes to practice every day with a great attitude and works so hard. She is a great leader, and was voted a team captain by her teammates at the beginning of the year. As an undersized team she is tasked with guarding the opponents biggest post player every game, and does a great job. Maija represents what it means to be a White Buffalo well! We wouldn’t be the same team without her.

Boy’s Basketball: Maikel averaged almost 14 Point Per Game in the month of February. His two best game were at Estacada and vs. Junction City where he scored 22 & 18 points. Maikel has also lead our team in assists this month with 3.5 per game. He has shown outstanding character and leadership for our team this year as well.

Boy’s Wrestling: Kaiden placed high at several tournaments this season. He placed 2nd at the Sister’s Invitational, 3rd at the Culver Invitational, 2nd at the White Buffalo Invitational. He also qualified for the 4A State Championship at 120 pounds and was only one match from placing at State. As only a Sophomore, Kaiden counties to improve and we look forward to seeing him compete the next couple of years. Great season Kaiden!

Girl’s Wrestling: With wrestling being brand new to her, Brooklin had excelled tremendously on the the mat! Her hard work and dedication had shown on the mat! She had some tough matches throughout the season but was so eager to get better after each match! She is such a huge supporter to her teammates! I can’t wait to see what the next season brings!

Swimming: Kyra is an all around good human and exceptional athlete. She works hard at practice every single day without fail. At districts she dropped nearly 8 seconds in her 200 freestyle and made finals in the event. Kyra is also an Incredible team mate. She goes out of her way to make everyone feel included, and always has fun ways to bring the team together. She is a rockstar!

Cheerleading: Amira is a great leader and has a fearless attitude. She has taken some hits from stunting but never fails to see the positive and is always willing to jump right back in. Amira is a friend to all and is a great teacher, guide, and lifts her team up when their down. We are so blessed to have Amira on our team and she never seizes to amaze us with her kindness and can do attitude.
