Introducing Madras High School’s January Athletes of the Month!

These exceptional athletes from boys and girls basketball, boys and girls wrestling, swimming, and cheerleading have shown outstanding dedication and sportsmanship on and off the court, mat, and in the pool.

Each coach took the time to write down summaries on why these individuals truly stand out. Let’s give a roaring cheer for these January stars!

Girls Basketball: Rylan is one of our Senior team captains. She is undoubtedly one of the biggest leaders on our team. She has led the team in scoring through the month of January with just under 15 points per game over her last 6 games played.

She also has recently been playing the top of our zone press defense, forcing many turnovers that lead to more buckets for our team. She shows up to practice every day with a good attitude and makes other players around her better.

– Head Coach Logan Bertram

Boys Basketball: Seneca is leading our team in scoring with 22.5 PPG. He has had some huge performances this month including a 37 & 40 point game. He has become a great leader for our team this year and puts in a ton of work to be successful.

– Head Coach Nick Brown

Boys Wrestling: Mike Young is a great leader of this team on and off the mat. Mike has been working hard and improving this season. He recently placed 3rd place at the Cottage Grove invitational in a tough bracket. Mike Young has a great future ahead of him.

– Head Coach Travis Ralls

Girls Wrestling: As an incoming freshman on the team, Nichole has been wrestling tough at practice and the tournaments! Nichole is always there supporting her teammates on and off the mat. She always has the best attitude and coachable! At Siuslaw- she wrestled some tough matches and placed 3rd! Cannot wait to see what is in store for the rest of the season along with her high school career!

– Head Coach Evangeline Young

Swimming: Paisley has been the gold standard for what an athlete’s mentality should be. As any coach knows, we can explain things until we turn blue but if the athlete isn’t receptive to the process, no improvement will be seen. Paisley from the start has been 100% dedicated to the process. Even when there were things she didn’t want to do, or didn’t believe she could do, Paisley trusted the process and continues to give her all. And because of that, she has improved rapidly. To the point that coaches and officials from other areas are telling me during meets how impressed they were with how far she’s come. We are so proud of you Paisley and we are sad we won’t be getting you back next year. Stay aggressive!

– Head Coaches Garrett Webb and Joannah Pendell

Cheerleading: Chloe comes to practice with a great attitude and fun spirit. She makes everyone laugh and always tries to lift everyone up. We are so thankful for what she adds to team.

– Head Coaches Brittany Killion & Amanda Monroe
